Amnesty International has opened an online petition, while urging the Nigeria Police Force to promptly investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi’s alleged remarks inciting violence against Accord Party members ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State Governorship election.

Fadahunsi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senator, appeared in a viral video telling supporters to “kill” Accord Party members if seen campaigning in Ilesa, Osun State.

He, however, later clarified the words were metaphorical for defeating them at the polls, not literal violence.

Opening an online petition on Saturday, Amnesty International in a post on its official X account also called on the police to promptly investigate Senator Fadahunsi.

“@PoliceNG @Tunjidisu1, allegations of incitement to violence ahead of the Osun election require urgent action,” the post read.

“We call for a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation into the reported remarks attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi and accountability where the evidence establishes a criminal offence.

“Political differences must never become a justification for violence. Sign the petition and call on the authorities to act now. amn.st/6013B1ROed. Stop incitement. Prevent violence. Protect human rights. #VoteNotViolence.”

The post promotes an online petition and hashtag #VoteNotViolence to demand accountability and prevent political differences from justifying violence during the election.
