…As monarch urges government to sack contractors handling roads in Oye community

A group under the auspices of the August 10 Club in the Oye Ekiti community, in the Oye local government areas of the state, has awarded scholarships to ten undergraduate indigenes of the town who have excelled in their studies.

The August 10 Club said that the students who are indigenes of Oye Ekiti, were picked from various universities across the country based on their academic performance.

Speaking at the weekend in Oye Ekiti, during the presentation of the scholarship award, the legal adviser of the club, Mr  Adewale Aribatise said that the scholarship was in line with the objective of the club.

Aribatise who represented the President of the Club, Mr Lanre Adesuyi, said that one of the cardinal objectives of August 10 Club is to encourage academic excellence through scholarships, mentorship, and support for schools and students from Oye- Ekiti.

“The aim of the scholarship is to ease the academic journey of these 10 brilliant undergraduates. They are in different universities, and the club, want to inspire them.
They were not just picked randomly. There is no partiality in the award. They were selected on merit.

“The awardees were deserving of the award because they applied themselves to their studies. They were chosen because they faced their studies. They faced what their parents sent them to the university to do.

“We urged them to make first class in their chosen courses, to avoid unemployment after finishing their university.

“The scholarship cheques we are presenting today is part of our core values. This is the maiden edition of the scheme.I congratulate the 10  successful students. You have gone through very strict and careful  processes before you were finally selected.

“I will advice you not to take this for granted by utilising the fund judiciously and continue to excel in your studies.This scholarship scheme will continue to be on annual basis from now on to encourage and support our youths in Oye-Ekiti,” he said

Also speaking while presenting the scholarships to the deserving students, the traditional ruler of the Oye Ekiti community, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju urged the awardees to justify the confidence reposed in them by excelling in their careers.

The monarch also urged other clubs and individuals from the community to emulate the good gestures of the August 10 Club by contributing their quotas for the progress of Oye Ekiti.

Worried by the slow pace of work on various road projects across the community, Oba Ademolaju urged the government not hesitate in relieving the erring contractors of their contracts.

He absolved government of complicity concerning the poor state of the roads that connects the community, saying that the contractors were mobilized to commence work, but without commensurate work on those roads.

The traditional ruler however appealed to the government to intervene on the poor state of electricity in the community, which is housing a federal university, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE.

He expressed concern that all efforts made regarding the electricity have not yielded results including the planned Independent Power Project.
