Olajide, OYSTROMA move to overhaul Adeoyo-Orita Challenge road

Residents and motorists along the Adeoyo State Hospital axis in Ibadan are set to heave a sigh of relief as plans have commenced for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the road linking Ring Road/Adeoyo Roundabout to Olororo Junction, Orita Challenge.

The planned intervention followed an on-the-spot assessment of the road by the member representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide Odidiomo, and the Chairman of the Oyo State Road Management Agency (OYSTROMA), Mr. Busoye
Ogunlade.

The inspection was undertaken to determine the extent of deterioration and establish the technical requirements for the total overhaul of the road.

According to a statement by Olajide’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, measurements were taken along the entire stretch of the road, with particular attention to the drainage system, culverts and other areas requiring structural intervention.

Mustapha said the planned intervention would go beyond routine repairs, describing it as a total overhaul of the road corridor.

He disclosed that drainage and culvert works would commence in the coming days, stressing that the drainage component would precede the major roadwork.

He said the approach was designed to address the underlying water-flow problems before the road surface was rehabilitated.

“Following the completion of the necessary drainage works, tarring of the road would commence immediately,” the statement said.

According to Mustapha, the sequence would ensure that the rehabilitation was properly executed and that the newly laid surface was protected from avoidable damage arising from inadequate drainage infrastructure.

The road serves as an important link between Ring Road, Adeoyo, the Adeoyo State Hospital axis and Orita Challenge, connecting residents and road users to several commercial, residential, healthcare and public service institutions in the area.

Its rehabilitation is expected to improve vehicular movement and accessibility, while reducing the difficulties experienced by motorists and residents using the corridor.

Mustapha said the intervention was in line with Olajide’s commitment to pursuing practical solutions to infrastructure challenges affecting residents and motorists through engagement with relevant authorities and technical agencies.

He added that the immediate commencement of drainage and culvert works would mark the first phase of the rehabilitation, while the subsequent tarring would complete the major surface work on the affected road corridor.
