The Council of Legal Education has approved the study of law to the Amadeus University, Amazi, Abia State.
The approval which was granted at the third quarter hybrid meeting of the council would see the university admitting an initial quota of about 50 students for it’s 100 level beginning with the 2026)2027 academic session.
Four other Universities were also granted approval to commence the study of law, while one was denied opportunity for the programme, owing to numerous deficiencies identified during the verification exercise.
At the meeting, the Council reviewed key policy matters relating to legal education and the administration of the Nigerian Law School, while reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high standards in legal education and the legal profession.
Among the resolutions reached at the meeting was the consideration and approval of the report of the Chairman, Board of Studies, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayomi Odusote, on the May 2026 Bar Final (Resit) Examination.
It was reported that a total of 1,955 candidates sat for the examination, while 885 candidates passed; 54 candidates obtained conditional pass; 983 failed and 32 were absent and 19 candidates’ results withheld.
It was gathered that the approval to study law granted to Amadeus University, followed a thorough verification exercise carried out on the institution by the Council.
Amadeus University, licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2023. The University offers 19 undergraduate programs across faculties including Engineering, Science and Computing, Social and Management Sciences, and Allied Health Sciences.
Stakeholders stated that the approval by the Council of Legal Education would further boost the institution’s drive and quest for excellence, stressing that it would strive to maintain highest standards in law as it had done in other areas.
Chairman of the Council, Emeka Ngige, (SAN), had commended the university, members of the Council for their continued support, commitment and contributions to the development of legal education in Nigeria.
He also appreciated the management of the Nigerian Law School, under the leadership of the Director-General, Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayomi Odusote, for its continued commitment to effective administration of the School.
