…Turns Focus to Kogi East Senatorial Race
High Chief Peter Ameh has stepped down as Director-General of the OK Movement, saying the decision will allow him to concentrate fully on his bid for the Kogi East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections.
Ameh who formerlly announced his resignation with immediate effect, while expressing readiness to support whoever Mr. Peter Obi chooses to succeed him as Director-General of the movement.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ameh thanked Obi for the leadership and personal qualities he said had continued to inspire the movement, particularly his integrity, credibility and commitment to the ideals that informed its establishment.
He said the OK Movement was built around principles that transcended individual positions, adding that his resignation from its leadership should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from those ideals.
Ameh, who is the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Kogi East, said his decision was driven largely by the demands of the campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation as Director-General of the OK Movement, effective immediately. I humbly accept any individual appointed by my leader to succeed me in this role,” he said.
He added: “I remain firmly committed to the ideals that united us and wish the OK Movement every success in its future endeavours.”
Ameh’s resignation marks a shift from his organisational role within the movement as he turns his attention to the Kogi East senatorial contest and the broader political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
