FG to prioritise infrastructures for sustainable regional development

Federal Government Of Nigeria (FGN)

The Federal Government has on Tuesday declared its commitment to invest more capital and human resources in basic infrastructure to fast-track economic and human development in the North-East and five other regions of the country.

Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, disclosed this while speaking to journalists shortly after inaugurating a fertility centre and maternity ward in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

It was reported reports that the health facilities were constructed and equipped by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

Minister said the centre was one of the completed projects of NEDC‘s intervention in the health sector, among many other projects being executed by the commission in some of the health institutions within the Northeast region.

Ahmadu reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to bridging the critical infrastructure gap through NEDC’s intervention initiative.

The Minister, however, said that the Federal Government’s commitment was critically essential to the region’s stabilisation after 17 years of Boko Haram terrorism.

He also announced that his ministry had spent billions of naira to implement vital and people-centred programmes through the NEDC.

In his brief remarks, Governor Babagana Zulum therefore commended the commission for the various interventions in Borno, particularly the MRI machine recently procured for the UMTH.
