The Spokesperson of the Ademola Adeleke Governorship Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has vowed to stop the return of the six-term member of the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, to the Green Chamber in the 2027 general elections.
Olajengbesi, who is the Accord Party candidate for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, said he was confident of defeating Oke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, after claiming to have already defeated him in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The legal practitioner and activist, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, said the results of the governorship election showed that the Accord Party defeated the APC in the constituency by 2,383 votes.
He said while Accord polled 21,343 votes against APC’s 14,863 in Oriade Local Government Area, the APC won Obokun with 16,120 votes against Accord’s 12,023 votes.
According to him, the combined figures gave Accord 33,366 votes against APC’s 30,983 votes across the two local government areas.
Olajengbesi said the figures, which he noted matched the governorship results published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demonstrated that Oke was not politically invincible in the constituency.
He said he would build on the result in the 2027 election to unseat the lawmaker, who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives since 2003.
“My ambition rests on several strategic arguments, shifting political dynamics, and grassroots narratives. I’m a necessary intervention against political monopoly,” he said.
According to him, Oke’s prolonged stay in the National Assembly had deprived the constituency of fresh ideas and alternative leadership.
“Wole Oke has held the Green Chamber seat since 2003. A 24-year continuous recycling of leadership has stagnant ideas and stifled the growth of our constituency.
“About a quarter-century in office by a single individual is undemocratic. Obokun/Oriade constituency deserves fresh representation,” he said.
Olajengbesi alleged that Oke had previously sought his support and that of other constituency leaders to contest for another term, promising to support his own candidacy in 2027.
He accused the lawmaker of reneging on the alleged agreement.
“Oke had previously pleaded with me and other constituency leaders to allow him to run a final time, promising to back me in 2027. He betrayed us and reneged on the agreement. This is the height of greed,” he said.
Olajengbesi, however, said he was not intimidated by Oke’s political experience or incumbency, insisting that the 2027 contest would provide an opportunity for voters in the constituency to choose a new direction.
“In 2027, I will not surrender to him. I am a child of necessity,” he declared.
