The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Abia State Command, has welcomed the new Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, and pledged to strengthen its partnership with the police to improve security across the state.
 
The PCRC delegation, led by its chairman, Chief Iheanyi Igboanulam, paid a courtesy visit to the commissioner on Tuesday at the Abia State Police Command Headquarters in Umuahia.
 
The visit was aimed at formally welcoming Afolabi to Abia and reinforcing the existing relationship between the police and the community.

Igboanulam said the committee remained committed to serving as a bridge between the police and residents, adding that it was ready to support initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.

Responding, Afolabi thanked the delegation for the visit and assured the committee of the command’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the PCRC and other stakeholders.

The commissioner briefed the delegation on the operational strategies being implemented in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police. 

He said the command was working to address communication gaps in critical areas, including Aba, while also prioritising the continuous training and retraining of personnel.

According to him, the measures are designed to improve professionalism, efficiency and effective service delivery by officers.
 
Afolabi also disclosed that the command was strengthening its Cybercrime Department to improve its capacity to respond to cyber-related offences in the state.
 
He urged the PCRC to remain committed to its responsibility of supporting the police and promoting peaceful relations between security agencies and the public.
 
The commissioner assured the committee that the command would continue to work closely with it and other stakeholders to create a safer and more secure environment for residents of Abia State.
