Capt. Wisdom takes charge as Enugu Air Operations Director

Capt. Wisdom

Capt. (Prof.) Wisdom Effiong Isangadighi has assumed the role of Director of Operations at Enugu Air, overseeing commercial aviation operations, flight safety, pilot training, fleet management and airline administration.

Isangadighi took up the appointment in May 2025, with responsibility for the airline’s flight operations, safety oversight, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

As Director of Operations, he coordinates Enugu Air’s day-to-day flight operations and works with regulatory authorities, including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), on audits, inspections and other operational and compliance matters.

The appointment marks the latest stage in a career spanning commercial flight operations, safety management, auditing, pilot training, fleet management and senior airline administration.

Isangadighi began his formal aviation training between 2009 and 2010 and commenced commercial flying in 2012. He has since accumulated approximately 11,000 flight hours, with experience on aircraft including the E170, E190, E195, ERJ145 and ATR 72.

“I started my aviation training in 2009 and moved into commercial flying in 2012,” Isangadighi said, recounting his career progression.

Before joining Enugu Air’s senior management team, he held several operational and leadership positions across Nigeria’s aviation sector.

At Overland Airways, he served as Captain, Deputy Chief Pilot, Safety Manager and Internal Auditor. His responsibilities included identifying operational hazards, assessing risks, implementing mitigation measures and conducting compliance audits.

His auditing responsibilities involved assessing operations against NCAA regulations and International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards, following specialised internal-auditing training with IATA.

“My responsibilities in safety management included hazard identification, risk analysis and the implementation of mitigation measures,” he said.

His career later expanded into pilot training and fleet management.

At Air Peace, Isangadighi served as Captain on the Embraer E195-E2 and E190-E1 before becoming a Training Captain, where he was involved in pilot development and operational training for the airline’s Embraer fleet.

He subsequently served as Fleet Manager and Line Training Captain for the Embraer E170, E190 and E195 aircraft under XeJet and Enugu Air.

In his current role, Isangadighi is responsible for ensuring that flight operations are conducted safely and efficiently, operational procedures comply with applicable regulations, and the airline maintains effective coordination across its operational functions.

His responsibilities also include working with the NCAA during regulatory audits and inspections.

“Regulatory compliance is an important part of airline operations, and the Director of Operations has a responsibility to ensure that established procedures and applicable regulations are followed,” he said.

Isangadighi is also a Type Rating Instructor, with responsibilities covering aircraft type-rating training, simulator instruction and pilot assessments.

His professional development has included specialised training in Safety Management Systems, risk management, aviation management and operations, airport operations management, airline management, fleet and route planning, and ISO 19011 lead auditing.

These qualifications complement his extensive experience in commercial flight operations and airline management.

At Overland Airways, he gained experience in safety and regulatory oversight. At Air Peace, he worked on Embraer aircraft operations and pilot training, while his subsequent fleet-management responsibilities involved aircraft utilisation, pilot development, fleet coordination and airline operations.

His appointment as Director of Operations at Enugu Air brings these areas of experience together in a broader management role.

“I have worked in different areas of airline operations, including flying, safety, auditing, training and fleet management. Each of those roles has provided a different perspective on airline operations,” Isangadighi said.

With approximately 11,000 flight hours and experience spanning commercial flying, safety, auditing, training and fleet management, Isangadighi now oversees the wider operational functions of Enugu Air.

His appointment marks another stage in an aviation career that began with flight-school training in 2009, progressed to commercial aviation in 2012 and has since expanded into operational management within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
