The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has acknowledged the receipt of N145.98 million from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for 1,454 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university disclosed this in a letter dated July 7, 2026, signed by its Registrar, Bimpe Omoyiwola, and addressed to the Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr.
According to the letter, the money was released in three additional tranches, with the first tranche of N92.75 million paid to 910 students on April 15, 2026.
The second tranche, amounting to N35.18 million, was received on May 7 for 358 students, while the third tranche of N18.04 million was received on June 9 for another 186 beneficiaries.
The three disbursements brought the total amount received by the university under the additional tranches to N145,975,250, benefiting 1,454 students.
Omoyiwola expressed the university management’s appreciation to the Fund and the student beneficiaries for what she described as an “invaluable initiative” providing affordable and accessible tertiary education to Nigerian students.
She also assured the agency of the university’s commitment to transparency, accountability and strict compliance with the operational guidelines governing the student loan scheme.
