The streets of Manhattan came alive with the vibrant rhythms of Africa last Friday, August 14, 2026, as Nigerian highlife powerhouse Chinedu Okoli, globally renowned as Flavour, headlined a sold-out edition of the LOUD IN AFRICA Concert Series at Racket NYC.
The highly anticipated event lived up to its billing, drawing a massive, enthusiastic crowd from across the African diaspora, music lovers, and international culture enthusiasts for an unforgettable night of music, dance, and heritage.
From the moment the doors opened at 431 West 16th Street, the venue buzzed with high energy. Flavour, true to his title as the “King of Highlife,” took the stage and treated the audience to a masterclass in live performance. Blending his signature highlife melodies with contemporary Afrobeats and rich traditional instrumentation, he doled out back-to-back crowd favorites, keeping fans on their feet singing along word-for-word.
The night was further elevated by a stellar lineup of supporting acts who brought diverse flavors of African and global diaspora entertainment to the stage. Performances by Naomi Achu, Prince Bright of Buk Bak, Bruck Up (Mr. Excitement), 2Cent, Unathi Nkayi, and Nkumu Katalayi infused the venue with dynamic genres and deep cultural resonance. Nollywood star Mercy Macjoe also added extra glitz to the evening with a special guest appearance, bridging the worlds of African cinema and music.
Reflecting on the resounding success of the event, the Founder of LOUD IN AFRICA, Abass Mubarak Akeju, expressed profound gratitude to the fans and creatives who made the night a milestone for African culture abroad.
“What we witnessed tonight at Racket NYC is proof that African music is a universal language that breaks all barriers,” Akeju stated post-event.
“Flavour and all our incredible supporting artists didn’t just put on a show; they created a home away from home for the diaspora. LOUD IN AFRICA will continue to champion this movement, creating spaces where our culture can thrive loudly and proudly on the global stage.”
Industry watchers have hailed the New York concert as one of the standout African music events of the summer, successfully reinforcing cultural bridges and showcasing the unmatched reach of African talent in North America.
