ASKY Airlines is set to strengthen historical, cultural and commercial ties between Kano, Nigeria and Niamey, Niger, with the launch of a new air service linking the two cities, effective September 2, 2026.

A statement by the airline’s management said that with this addition, Kano becomes the 31st destination on ASKY’s growing network, spanning more than 30 cities across 28 countries.

Routed through the airline’s hub in Lomé, the new service would give passengers travelling to and from Kano seamless onward connections to key business and leisure destinations throughout West and Central Africa, extending the city’s reach well beyond the region.

The route also revives a historic trade corridor that has linked the region for more than a thousand years, once travelled by foot and camel caravan and later by road.

The statement added: “Kano has long stood as a major commercial centre and a key hub of the pre-colonial trans-Saharan trade routes connecting present-day Nigeria with North African markets such as Morocco and Egypt.

“By opening this air link, ASKY said it would support the continued growth of trade, tourism and regional mobility between Nigeria and Niger, significantly reduce travel time for passengers and reinforce the longstanding fraternal ties between the two countries.”
