Firm unveils fresh drive to expand homeownership

Nigerian housing firm AXP Africa Limited has launched a new drive to widen access to homeownership, bringing mortgage providers, property developers, employers and technology partners into a more coordinated model.

The initiative, unveiled as the company marked its sixth anniversary in Lagos, is aimed at moving more prospective homeowners through the often fragmented process of finding a property, securing finance and completing a purchase.

AXP, formerly known as AXP Solutions Pro Limited, said its new identity reflected its transition from a real estate advisory firm into an integrated housing ecosystem platform.

The company said it has so far profiled and facilitated mortgage opportunities for more than 300 prospective homeowners through partnerships with developers and financial institutions.

It now plans to significantly increase the number of people it facilitates while also accelerating processing under the National Housing Fund, which provides housing finance support to eligible Nigerians.

A key part of the new strategy is a corporate homeownership track that would bring employers, developers and mortgage banks together under a coordinated pathway for workers seeking to purchase homes.

“For six years, AXP has done one thing with real consistency: we’ve provided real estate advisory and completed mortgage applications for genuinely esteemed customers, through partnerships built on trust, not transactions,” said Hakeem Sadiku, head of enterprise strategy, PMO and transformation at AXP Africa.

“That foundation doesn’t change tonight. What changes is the scale we’re building for.”

Sadiku said Nigeria’s housing deficit required greater urgency and scale, with technology expected to play a central role in the company’s expansion.

The company said the new model would connect finance, technology, policy and partnerships in an effort to reduce some of the barriers that prevent Nigerians from converting housing aspirations into actual ownership.

AXP’s immediate focus remains Nigeria, but it said the model could eventually be adapted for other African markets facing similar difficulties in housing finance and delivery.

The new direction was announced at a cocktail event at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, attended by representatives of developers, mortgage banks, investors and government stakeholders.

AXP said the relaunch marked a new phase in its operations, with its focus shifting from individual real estate and mortgage transactions towards building a wider network capable of supporting homeownership at greater scale.
