Twenty-four-year-old Sarah Ededet Amamkpa was looking forward to starting afresh after ending her relationship with her boyfriend and moving into a new apartment closer to her business.

But that new beginning was cut short when she was allegedly attacked by her former boyfriend, Friday Brownson Eshiet, at Ikot Oku Ikono, Akwa Ibom State.

Sarah, the sixth of eight children in her family of six girls and two boys later died from injuries sustained in the alleged attack.

A sister of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the family was informed on Wednesday, September 9, that Sarah had been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident the previous day.

According to her, Sarah had earlier ended her relationship with Eshiet and moved out of the apartment where they had lived together.

She said Sarah had told members of the family that she rented another apartment closer to her business.

The sister said the landlord took Sarah to hospital on Tuesday after the alleged attack.

She added that when the family later asked the landlord for the tenancy receipts, which were not found in Sarah’s apartment, he produced two receipts bearing Eshiet’s name.

The circumstances surrounding Sarah’s death became more disturbing when, according to the sister, the deceased’s mother told the family that Eshiet had called her and directed her to pick up Sarah’s body at a particular signboard.

The family subsequently reported the matter to the police at a station along Idoro Road.

The family was later informed that the case would be transferred to the C Division, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, for further investigation.

As of yesterday, Eshiet had not been seen.

The family is now seeking justice for Sarah, while the police are expected to take further action after the case is transferred to the C Division.
