Commissioner for Aviation, Cross River State, Captain Inah Eno Utum (Rtd), has commended Cally Air on its plans to expand its fleet with the delivery of a new CRJ aircraft this September, as part of a phased expansion programme expected to continue into early 2027.

The commissioner said the development would strengthen air connectivity within the region.

The aircraft, with registration number 5N-CRF, is expected to add capacity to the airline’s existing operations, providing greater flexibility across its network and supporting increased flight frequencies where required.

The airline currently operates three aircraft across its network, while the additional capacity is expected to support increased frequencies and greater schedule flexibility as Cally Air continues to develop its operations.

The move comes amid growing demand for domestic air travel in Nigeria, which continues to put pressure on available capacity across key routes.

“The expansion reflects the continued development of air connectivity within the region. Increased capacity can support movement between communities and create additional opportunities for trade, tourism and investment,” the commissioner said.

Cally Air’s flight operations continue to be managed by ValueJet, which will support the airline through the aircraft induction process and subsequent expansion of its operations.

The Managing Director of ValueJet, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, said the phased approach would ensure that each aircraft was properly integrated into the operation.

“The phased addition of the aircraft allows each one to be properly integrated into the operation before the next is introduced. Our focus is on ensuring the process is carried out safely and efficiently while supporting Cally Air’s operational requirements,” he said.

The phased fleet expansion is expected to allow Cally Air to gradually increase capacity while maintaining operational and safety standards throughout the integration process.

The airline said the additional capacity would support its existing domestic network and provide a platform for future growth, including potential expansion within the West African region.
