The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has taken his campaign for a production-driven economy to Delta State, saying Nigeria must urgently move away from consumption if it is to create jobs and reduce poverty.

Obi spoke on Thursday, September 24, during the launch of the NDC campaign office in Asaba, where he joined the party’s Delta State governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, other candidates, leaders and supporters.

Rather than focusing solely on the campaign office launch, Obi used the occasion to restate his argument that Nigeria’s economic challenges require a fundamental shift from consumption to production.

He said the country must combine national unity with improved security, increased production and job creation to pull millions of Nigerians out of poverty.

According to him, the NDC’s message is centred on building a Nigeria that is more secure, productive and capable of creating opportunities for its citizens.

Obi thanked Iyovwaye, other Delta candidates, party leaders and members for their commitment to the party’s programme, while also appreciating residents of the state for the reception accorded him during the visit.

He said the engagement in Delta was another opportunity to take the party’s message directly to Nigerians and reinforce its commitment to a better country.

“A New Nigeria is Possible, and Nigeria will be OK,” Obi said.
