The 10 creators turning TikTok into a new media empire

From Peller and Geh Geh to Carter Efe and Brain Jotter, Nigerian creators are turning livestreams, skits and viral content into a new entertainment economy.

From viral skits to six-figure gifting economies, a new class of Nigerian creators is proving that a smartphone and a following can rival the reach and the revenue of traditional broadcast media.

The advent of TikTok Live streaming in Nigeria has transformed the nation’s entertainment industry by elevating creators previously known for short comedy skits into figures able to attract crowds equal to those reached via TV broadcasts. The ranking presented below evaluates creators based on cultural significance and audience reach, not follower counts on their platforms.

  1. The Gatekeeper of Nigerian TikTok Live

Peller (Habeeb Hamzat)

Peller made his reputation on TikTok LIVE through hosting shows featuring such notable artists as Davido, Tiwa Savage and Olamide. His October 2024 stream featuring Davido had over 389,800 viewers at a time, according to Premium Times; that was Africa’s highest number of viewers on a single stream on TikTok. Peller was criticised by viewers for stunts that appeared to be attention-seeking for gifts and rewards, a controversial issue in Nigeria’s livestreaming scene.

  1. The Self-Made Professor of Streetwise Comedy

Geh Geh (Emmanuel Obruste)

Obruste holds a “Geh Geh University of Wisdom and Understanding”, where he provides comedy sketches as well as gives advice on relationships and money. A stream held in August 2025 reportedly had over 177,000 viewers and earned him around $30,000 in virtual gifts; however, it must be mentioned that in this and similar numbers in this article, one can find self-reported data rather than independently audited figures.

  1. The Skit King Who Went Platform-Agnostic

Carter Efe (Oderhohwo Joseph Efe)

Efe transitioned from creating comedy sketches into livestreaming, being active on the Twitch, YouTube and TikTok platforms, among others, and became one of the most popular Nigerian streamers through collaborations with artists such as Davido. Efe’s case reflects the general shift that occurred in the Nigerian entertainment industry: skit comedians started viewing livestreaming as a separate field of expertise.

  1. The Choreographer Building a Quiet Following

Purple Speedy (Peace Pever Anpee)

Anpee created a following for herself via dance and choreography videos. Together with another dancer, Crispdal, she created one of the more constant duos of creators on Nigerian TikTok; however, she has less media coverage than the streamers mentioned above.

  1. The Voice of the Nigerian Living Room

Paper Chaze (Onafowope Olumide Korede)

The comedy of Korede relies on common Nigerian household situations, and some of his catchphrases live outside the original videos, becoming part of online vocabulary. In fact, the skit about African parents receiving guests managed to reach over 40 million views on Facebook.

  1. The Comedian Who Crossed Into Live

Shank comics (Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel)

Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel moved from scripted comedy sketches into livestreaming by involving celebrities as guests, thus attracting viewers beyond his initial fanbase.

  1. The Dancer-Turned-Screen-Presence

Batife Bentley (Ameera Eniola Adelekan)

Through her dance and choreography videos, dance challenges and TikTok sounds, Adelekan became involved in films and making music videos, working together with Nigerian musicians.

  1. The One-Hit Trend That Wouldn’t Fade

Brain Jotter (Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie)

Amuzie’s fame comes from skit videos, not livestreams. His “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo” dance challenge went viral in 2024 and brought an old highlife song to the attention of a younger generation — one of the few examples among the creators listed here of popularity lasting more than a couple of weeks beyond the news cycle.

  1. Half of Nigeria’s Favourite Dance Duo

Crispdal (Chinye Elijah)

Elijah creates slow-motion dance videos and maintains a partnership with Purple Speedy, making the duo more recognisable to audiences.

  1. The Connector of Nigeria’s Streaming Circle

Kolu Wahala (Hamza Kolu)

Kolu gained recognition through interacting with other livestreamers like Peller, Carter Efe, MandyKiss and Portable. His most-known interaction, however, occurred in the form of a viral moment involving Davido, and similarly to a number of other creators featured here, the virality of this event was driven by clips uploaded on Twitter/X, not on TikTok itself.
