The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has dislodged street traders occupying road corridors, walkways and other unauthorised spaces around Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and the Costain Under Bridge/National Theatre axis.
The enforcement operation, carried out in collaboration with the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), was aimed at restoring order to the affected areas, easing pedestrian and vehicular movement and preventing activities that could undermine environmental cleanliness.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said yesterday that the exercise formed part of the authority’s sustained efforts to protect public spaces and ensure that roads, walkways and other public areas were used for their intended purposes.
He said the operation targeted street trading activities that had obstructed movement and contributed to environmental nuisance along the affected corridors.
Gbadegesin warned traders against returning to road corridors, walkways and other unauthorised locations, urging them to conduct their businesses only in designated and approved trading areas.
According to him, keeping public spaces orderly and clean requires sustained compliance by residents, traders and other stakeholders.
He said LAWMA would continue to collaborate with relevant government agencies to address activities that undermine environmental standards and public order across the state.
Gbadegesin also urged residents and other stakeholders to support the enforcement efforts by complying with established regulations and refraining from activities that obstruct public spaces or contribute to environmental degradation.
He assured that LAWMA would sustain monitoring of the affected areas to prevent the return of illegal trading activities and ensure continued compliance.
