Katsina State Governor, Dr Dikko Radda, has signed the 2027 appropriation bill into law, with the state expected to expend the sum of N828.6 billion for the fiscal year.
Radda signed the bill into law on Wednesday evening at the Government House Chamber, where the Speaker, State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya and other lawmakers were in attendance.
The budget, known as “Building Your Future IV”, had earlier been prestented to the lawmakers a few weeks ago by the governor at the House of Assembly.
The assented bill has almost similar expenditures as the appropriation bill the governor had sent to the House for consideration.
With the governor’s assent on Wednesday, the state has become the first in the country to sign its next year’s budget into law.
Speaking, Radda commmended the lawmakers for deliberating on the estimate within short time period after it was presented to them a few weeks ago.
The governor said the budget was compiled after the state government has sat with stakeholders at the 361 state’s wards, to hear from them what they wanted government to do for them.
He described the assented law as the people’s budget, even as he hoped the state government would implement the budget for the socio-economic transformation of the state and its people.
Giving breakdown of the assented bill, Speaker of the state house of assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya, said the lawmakers approved the sum of N828.6 billion for the budget.
Yahaya said of the amount, over N637 billion would go for Capital Expenditure, while more than N190 billion went to Recurrent Expenditure.
He assured that the Legislative Arm would continue to work closely with the Executive Arm to ensure the dividends of democracy reach people across the state.
