Every household has felt the effects of ongoing reforms – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu has stated that every household has felt the effects of the ongoing reforms.
Speaking on Thursday at the 66th National Independence Day parade at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Sanwo-Olu noted that the last few years have not been easy
The governor recounted the story of how Nigeria’s independence began in Lagos, saying independence was not a rumour that reached Lagos Stale. He said that independence was born in Lagos, in the hearing of Lagosians.
He added that everything Lagos has built it has been for Nigerians.
“So, it is fitting that we gathered here, at Onikan, on an old ground that was hosting the crowd long before the Nigerian flag was raised for the first time above the ground, and which today we call and bear the name, the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.”
According to Sanwo-Olu, Nigeria has reached the age where it is old enough to be honest and young enough to finish.
The governor noted that the country’s roads have not been all straight. “We fought a civil war before we were 10 years old. We spent the better part of our three decades under military rule, with the constitution suspended for more than that period. We have known coups and counter-coups; annulments and exiles; hopes raised and hopes dashed. There were years when the question was whether Nigeria would prosper or whether Nigeria would survive, but yet, here we are 66 years, one country, one flag,” he said.
The governor spoke on the anniversary’s theme: Road from Reforms to Stability, adding that prices are no longer running from wages the way they were.
“The naira has since found its feet. Investors have spent a decade waiting at the door; they are now walking in. The worst of the adjustment, we believe, is behind us. The work of making it count for the people who paid for it is right in front of us. This is a task of the years ahead, and it is not a task for the government alone,” he stated.
Governor spoke of Nigeria’s resilience, saying that through war, hunger and prophecies of collapse, the country’s flag has never come down.
“It is not ours to be tired; it is ours to finish,” he said.
