Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Clinton Lawani put out an impressive display between the sticks to help Sporting Lagos avoid defeat against Kano Pillars in matchday 7 of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Lawani, the Former Flying Eagles goalkeeper, pulled off several saves in a fairly contested affair at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Saturday evening.
Kano Pillars started with a clear intention to score first and control the game. Veteran midfielder Rabiu Alli forced Clinton Lawani to a save from a free kick in the 17th minute.
Lawani was called into action again three minutes later and protected his goal area with another save as the home side kept piling the pressure on their guests.
Sporting Lagos took the lead against the run of play in added time of the first half as Valentine Ugwu pounced on a rebound in the box off a brilliant interchange of play from midfield.
The Tech Boys’ lead only lasted a few minutes into the second half as Abdullahi Musa restored parity four minutes after the break.
Aliyu Baba had the chance to give Sporting Lagos the lead again but couldn’t convert from a tight spot.
Rabiu Alli made another attempt to beat Lawani from a free kick but failed again as the latter calmly saved the shot to keep his side in the game.
The game ended a goal apiece as both sides have now recorded three consecutive draws in the league.
Sporting Lagos coach Jeffrey Buter, in his post-match reaction said he is satisfied with the point even though his team had the best chance to seal maximum points.
We’re content with the point even though we could’ve gotten three with the best chance in the game at 1-1. We’ll rest now and shift our focus to the next game .
Action resumes across the league tomorrow. Reigning champions Enugu Rangers and Abia Warriors take center stage for the Oriental Derby; Rivers United are at home to Ikorodu City while Enyimba are up against Plateau United in Aba.
