President of the Cross River Businessmen’s Forum, High Chief Henry Onwe, has said the reinstatement of 3,000 local government workers to the state payroll by Governor Bassey Otu will boost household incomes and stimulate economic activities across the state.
Onwe, in a statement made available to journalists in Calabar, said the restoration of the workers’ salaries would inject fresh purchasing power into the economy and provide relief to thousands of households.
He said the impact would go beyond the direct beneficiaries, noting that restored incomes would circulate through communities and support local businesses and extended families.
According to him, the decision would particularly benefit young people who constitute a significant number of the affected workers, helping to protect livelihoods and improve their financial stability.
Onwe described the governor’s action as a demonstration of concern for workers’ welfare, urging the reinstated workers, their families and other Cross Riverians to support Otu’s administration.
He also called for support for the governor’s second-term bid in 2027, saying the reinstatement was among the actions that deserved recognition.
“For a personality of this magnitude, what can we as a people offer him other than our total support and loyalty to give him more verve and determination to reach everyone in every part of the state and beyond,” Onwe said.
