Society commits to technology transfer in HVAC&R sector

Lookman Olatinwo

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Nigeria Chapter, has reiterated its commitment to expanding investment, technology transfer and professional collaboration in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) sector.

President of the chapter, Lookman Olatinwo, an engineer, made this known at the ongoing 2026 ASHRAE Region-at-Large (RAL) Chapters Regional Conference in Cairo, Egypt.

The conference brings together technical professionals, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the region to exchange knowledge, develop leadership and discuss sustainable cooling and the future of the built environment.

Olatinwo said Nigeria’s participation would help showcase its growing HVAC&R market and strengthen relationships with international manufacturers, technology providers, engineering firms, investors and professional organisations.

He said the growing demand for energy-efficient cooling, refrigeration, cold-chain infrastructure, indoor air quality solutions and sustainable buildings presented significant opportunities for investment and technology deployment.

“We want to strengthen technical collaboration, expose our professionals to international best practices and encourage global HVAC&R companies to look more closely at Nigeria as an important market for investment, partnerships and technology deployment,” he said.

Olatinwo said ASHRAE’s international network could strengthen links between Nigeria’s expanding market and the global HVAC&R industry, creating opportunities for international companies seeking local partners, distributors and investment prospects.

He added that Nigerian engineers, contractors and businesses would also benefit from greater exposure to international technologies and expertise.

“Nigeria’s large population, expanding cities, increasing demand for cooling and refrigeration, growing real estate and infrastructure sectors, and the need for more energy-efficient buildings create significant opportunities across the HVAC&R value chain,” he said.
