As the nation commemorates66th independence anniversary, members of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) have restated commitment to balanced information and sustaining democratic culture.
BON Executive Secretary, Yemisi Bamgbose, noted the broadcast industry remains steadfast in driving the nation’s economic and democratic advancement despite severe operational challenges.
Describing the broadcast media as bedrock of democracy and economic growth, he, however, observed the industry is grappling with high energy costs and heavy dependence on imported equipment sourced with foreign exchange.
Speaking further, he said the organisation reiterated its commitment to promoting unity, equity, justice, and accountability, while continuing to provide accurate and balanced information Nigerians can trust amid rising fake news and disinformation.
In conclusion, Bamgbose added, “BON also commended the Federal Government and security agencies — the Military, Police, DSS and others — for their sustained efforts and sacrifices to restore security across the country.”
