The Chairman, Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Niger State Chapter, Mahmud Abdullahi, says the
World Public Relations Forum to be held in Abuja next month would be an ample opportunity to mainstream professional ideas into governance and national development.
Abdullahi, who made the assertion while speaking to members of the institute at the IBB Pen House, Minna, noted that since 126 countries will be converging in Abuja, it’s a good opportunity to cross fertilise ideas and enlighten the people.
“We want to take advantage of this and get all our members to experience and cross fertilise ideas,” he emphasized.
Earlier, the Niger State Commissioner of Information, Obed Nuhu Nana, stressed that the upcoming World Public Relations Forum with the theme “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the world, is apt for the present time.
He regretted that the society is faced with mis-communication, fake news, and quackery, even as he advised forum members that were yet to regularise their membership of NIPR, especially media personnel and all information officers within the state ministries, to ensure that they update their enrollment to become truly professional public relations practitioners.
Nana stated: “It’s a big one for Nigeria to have won the bid to host this, and for us in Niger State, we want to use it as a stage to market ourselves and the new Niger agenda of governor Bago.
“This is more of a training ground for journalists, especially in this region where we find ourselves in this state, and in fact, the entire Nigeria people who are not professionals, you know, just jumping into the career and they’re finding themselves in dangerous situations where they can’t even explain what happens, precisely, factually, and timely.
“And so, this is an opportunity for these officials to be professionals. All you need to do is just register and become a member, which gives you the ground to be truly professional.”
For his part, a former National Vice-president NIPR and current Federal Commissioner of Niger State at the National Population Commission, Muhammadu Dattiju Usman, called on all practitioners to be responsible and maintain professional ethics in their practice to ensure proper understanding and peaceful co-existence of everyone in the society.
