HumanManager Limited has urged organisations to make greater use of workforce data to identify employee capabilities, improve talent development and ensure that their people strategy supports business performance.
The company said growing changes in skills requirements and the nature of work had made it increasingly important for employers to understand not only the people they have, but also the capabilities within their workforce and the areas where additional skills are required.
Managing Director, HumanManager Limited, Udy Ngele, stated this at the 58th International Conference and Exhibition of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), held in Abuja.
Ngele said people strategy could no longer be treated as separate from business strategy, stressing that organisations seeking to remain competitive must deliberately build the capabilities required to achieve their business ambitions.
He said, “People strategy can no longer sit on the margins of business strategy,” adding that HR professionals must increasingly contribute to discussions around growth, transformation and long-term organisational resilience.
According to him, technology has an important role to play by providing the workforce insights required to make such decisions more informed and actionable.
Ngele said the growing relationship between people capability and business performance had made workforce planning a broader organisational priority.
Also speaking, Group Head, Business Development and Partnerships, HumanManager Limited, Abdulwasiu Issah, said organisations could not effectively develop the workforce they needed without first having a clear understanding of the capabilities already available within the organisation.
Issah said competency management provided a structured approach for organisations to identify existing strengths, determine development priorities and establish areas where capabilities needed to be strengthened.
He said, “Organisations cannot effectively develop the workforce they need if they do not have a clear understanding of the capabilities that already exist within the organisation.”
He added that as skills requirements continued to change, employers needed greater visibility into what their employees were capable of doing and where additional capabilities were required.
Issah said workforce data was therefore becoming increasingly important to decisions on employee development, talent deployment, succession planning and workforce readiness.
He said HumanManager’s Competency Management Module was developed to give organisations greater visibility into workforce capabilities and areas requiring development.
Also, Lead, Brands and Marketing, HumanManager Limited, Jerry Adeyeri, said the changing nature of work was also transforming the role of technology in human resource management.
Adeyeri said HR technology was moving beyond the administration of workforce processes to helping organisations understand their people, support employee development and make more informed decisions about workforce capabilities.
He said technology should not merely help organisations manage their workforce but should enable them to understand and maximise the capabilities of their employees.
HumanManager showcased its Competency Management Module at the CIPM four-day conference with the theme ‘Repositioning for Value and Impact’, which brought together HR professionals, business leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to examine developments shaping the future of work and people management.
