The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Enugu State branch, has pledged to promote professional excellence and strengthen partnerships with government, industry and other stakeholders to improve infrastructure development.
The branch Chairman, Loveday Osondu, stated this when members met the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ben Okoh. Osondu said his administration was committed to repositioning the profession through technical expertise, high standards, capacity development and constructive engagement.
“We are not merely a professional body but partners sharing responsibility for Enugu State’s development. Our expertise can contribute meaningfully to the state government’s vision and programmes,” he said.
He called for stronger collaboration with the ministry to improve the planning, design, execution, supervision and maintenance of public infrastructure, stressing the need for accountability, quality workmanship and innovation.
Osondu also pledged to create opportunities for young engineers to develop professionally and contribute to society.
Responding, Okoh congratulated the new executive and urged members to uphold the profession’s reputation, noting that engineers were expected to provide solutions to the country’s infrastructure challenges.
He said the state government recognised engineers’ contributions, reflected in the appointment of qualified professionals to the Peter Mbah administration and their employment in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
Okoh urged engineers to work together to ensure the success of next year’s engineering conference scheduled to be held in Enugu, saying it could open opportunities for the South-East to host more professional gatherings.
He challenged the NSE to make the conference exceptional, adding that the state had adequate facilities to host a landmark event.
