The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has called on stakeholders in Taraba State to support the deployment and sustainable operation of electric mobility, describing the initiative as an opportunity to boost economic growth, create jobs and reduce environmental pollution.
The commission made the call on Monday during a stakeholders’ sensitisation workshop on the deployment and operation of electric mobility, popularly known as E-Mobility, in Taraba State.
The NEDC said the initiative would promote a cleaner and more sustainable transportation system through the introduction of electric buses, vehicles and tricycles.
According to the commission, the adoption of electric mobility would not only improve transportation but also reduce commuting costs, encourage innovation and create employment opportunities for residents.
It noted that the initiative was designed to connect communities, expand economic opportunities, empower residents and improve the overall quality of life across the state.
The commission further explained that the electric mobility programme aligns with the pillars of its master plan, particularly Connected Regions and Protected Environment, which seek to improve regional connectivity and promote environmental sustainability.
However, it stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on effective collaboration among stakeholders, collective commitment and the ability to translate the opportunities offered by electric mobility into practical and sustainable outcomes.
The commission urged stakeholders at the workshop to contribute their expertise, ideas and resources towards ensuring the successful deployment, efficient operation and long-term sustainability of electric mobility across Taraba State.
It maintained that a coordinated approach involving relevant stakeholders would be essential to maximise the economic and environmental benefits of the initiative.
The NEDC expressed optimism that the adoption of electric mobility could serve as a catalyst for sustainable development, economic expansion and environmental protection in Taraba State.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Mohammed G. Alkali, the state coordinator, Mallam Adamu Lawal, urged participants to engage in fruitful deliberations and develop practical strategies for the successful implementation of the programme.
