The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has declared that it will not tolerate any parallel campaign activities ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the January 2027 presidential election.
The party had made this known in a statement on Monday.
Tajudeen Lawal, Osun APC Chairman, while speaking at the party’s stakeholders meeting held at the state Secretariat of the party in Osogbo, the state capital, stated that all hands would be on deck for the re-election of President Tinubu, warning against parallel campaign activities for the President in the state.
On Tuesday, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the ruling Accord Party, was appointed as Tinubu’s Campaign Coordinator in Osun.
The development has unsettled the APC in Osun, where stakeholders had expected that Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and leader of the party in the state, would be named as Coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Council.
According to the APC, it has perfected an effective and all embracing campaign committee for the re-election of President Tinubu.
Lawal explained further that all the critical stakeholders of the party in the state have resolved to work collectively through the powerful presidential campaign committee that would be inaugurated today, Tuesday.
He hinted that the leadership of the party could not afford to handle the forthcoming presidential election with levity, adding that it would profit the party and the candidate better if all the groups work under the umbrella of the party in the state.
The state party chairman disclosed that the state working committee of the party would work in tandem with the highest ruling body of the party in the state, Agba Osun, in order to achieve the targeted common objective of the re-election of President Tinubu.
He stated that any individual or group of people who are desirous to work for the re-election of President Tinubu should team up with the leadership of the party in the state, stating that the party would not allow any parallel approach to the planned co-ordinated efforts of ensuring the re-election of the President in the forthcoming presidential election.
Lawal appealed to all the stakeholders, members and supporters of the party to put the unsavoury governorship election result of the 15th August, 2026 behind them and took a fresh resolve for the re-election of President Tinubu.
Meanwhile, the Imole Campaign Council has welcomed the appointment of Governor Adeleke, describing it as well deserved.
It pledged that President Tinubu’s confidence in Governor Adeleke’s ability to deliver Osun in the forthcoming presidential election would not be misplaced. It assured the President that the trust reposed in the governor would be justified through unwavering commitment and a strong electoral performance.
In a statement signed by its Director General, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, the council promised to deliver 1.5million votes for the President in Osun adding that all the structures of Accord in Osun will work for the re-election of the President.
The declaration by the Osun APC has now set the stage for a showdown between the official party structure loyal to Oyetola and the Accord-led Imole structure being positioned by Adeleke to lead Tinubu’s campaign in Osun.
