Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing six insurgents and recovering arms and ammunition.
The attack targeted the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha at about 9:07 p.m. when the terrorists reportedly advanced on foot from the LAR axis in an attempt to overrun the military position.
However, the troops of Sector 4 responded with superior firepower and tactical coordination, forcing the attackers to retreat after a fierce encounter.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said subsequent searches of the area led to the discovery of six terrorist corpses.
The troops also recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition and other items believed to have been used by the insurgents during their operations.
Items recovered included one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles, 11 AK-47 magazines, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.
Other items recovered from the scene were an Infinix Android phone, a Canon portable video recorder, three camelback water bags, one magazine carrier and assorted clothing.
Although some military personnel sustained casualties during the encounter, the statement said the wounded troops were receiving medical attention, while arrangements were being made for their evacuation.
According to the military, troops have maintained heightened vigilance and continued search operations in the surrounding areas to prevent further attacks and recover additional items of operational importance.
The statement described the successful repulsion of the attack as a demonstration of the combat readiness, resilience and determination of the troops to defend their positions and frustrate terrorist offensives across the North-East.
It added that the Theatre Command remained committed to sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement, protecting vulnerable communities and degrading insurgent capabilities in the region.
Operation Hadin Kai also reaffirmed its determination to consolidate ongoing military efforts towards restoring lasting peace and security across the North-East.
