The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued five critically injured passengers after a 40-foot HOWO truck rammed into two commercial buses at Berger Bus Stop, inward Kara Bridge, along the Ojodu axis of Lagos.
The accident, involving an interstate commercial Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace bus, occurred as the truck was travelling out of Lagos, leaving several occupants of the passenger vehicles seriously injured.
The collision caused significant traffic congestion along the corridor, with queues extending to Otedola Bridge, as LASTMA officials moved to rescue victims and restore traffic flow.
The agency said its operatives stationed around the Ojodu-Berger axis swiftly responded to the incident and rescued five injured persons, comprising three females and two males, including the driver.
The victims were evacuated from the scene and transported by concerned motorists, accompanied by LASTMA officials, to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at the Toll Gate for urgent medical attention.
Security personnel from Isheri Police Station also provided support during the rescue operation.
Following the incident, LASTMA officials evacuated the damaged vehicles, including the articulated truck, from the road to prevent secondary accidents and facilitate the restoration of normal traffic movement.
The agency said its personnel remained deployed along the affected corridor to manage traffic and ease the congestion until the vehicles were removed.
The vehicles were subsequently handed over to the police for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and possible legal action.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy with the injured passengers and wished them a speedy recovery.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles, to prioritise roadworthiness, regular vehicle maintenance and strict compliance with traffic regulations.
He warned that mechanical faults, reckless driving and loss of vehicle control could have serious consequences, especially on major highways.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting lives, reducing road traffic incidents and ensuring smooth movement across Lagos State.
It also urged motorists to remain vigilant while driving and comply with traffic directives issued by LASTMA officials to prevent avoidable accidents.
