IGP hails Mbah for commitment to public safety, security

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu

Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu has commended Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah for his commitment to public safety and security.

He stated that Mbah has demonstrated this through his sponsorship for refurbishment and repair of twelve operational vehicles which were previously in deplorable conditions and continued support to improving security infrastructure in the state.

“This intervention represents a practical demonstration of visionary leadership, prudent resource utilisation and a genuine commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force particularly in Enugu State.

“Your Excellency, beyond this intervention, we acknowledge and commend your administration’s continued support for security infrastructure and other initiatives aimed at safeguarding lives and property across the state. Your partnership with the Nigeria Police Force reinforces the understanding that effective policing requires strong collaboration between government, security agencies and the communities we serve”, Disu stated.

Speaking at the launching of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Enugu State Police Command, he stated that several interventions by the Governor had supported efforts to ensure reduction of crimes in the state.

Represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 13, Miller Dantawaye, he stated that the establishment of the VCRU reflects the leadership’s determination to strengthen the Force capacity to respond promptly and professionally to incidents of violence, threats to public safety and other serious criminal activities.

” It underscores our resolve to adopt a more coordinated, intelligence-driven and responsive approach to policing, with particular emphasis on preventing violent crime, protecting vulnerable persons, responding swiftly to emergencies and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.

“The twelve vehicles being commissioned will significantly enhance the mobility, visibility and operational readiness of the Unit. They will facilitate rapid deployment to crime scenes, improve patrol coverage, strengthen intelligence-led operations and support the timely intervention of police personnel in situations requiring urgent response.

By restoring these vehicles to service, we are not merely improving our fleet; we are restoring valuable operational assets and expanding our capacity to protect the people of Enugu State“, he said

He charged the officers and personnel assigned to the Unit to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, courage and respect for human rights.

“They must act within the law, remain accountable in the discharge of their duties and treat members of the public with fairness, dignity and respect. The confidence of the people remains indispensable to effective policing”, he said.

He equally called on residents of Enugu State to support the Unit and the Nigeria Police Force by providing credible and timely information, cooperating with lawful police operations and remaining vigilant against criminal activities.
