The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has accused supporters of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, of vandalising campaign billboards belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, and his running mate, Hon. Soji Adedeji, in parts of Ibadan.
The organisation alleged that the billboards were vandalised in several locations, including Mokola, Sango, Monatan-Olodo Road, Odo-Ona and the Toll Gate-Iwo Road section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement, the Director of Media and Publicity of SSACO, Bisi Oladele, described the alleged vandalism as unacceptable and called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
The organisation linked the development to what it described as a pattern of political hostility, recalling the reported attack on Alli’s wife and two other APC candidates in Ibadan the previous week.
SSACO said the alleged vandalism had heightened its concerns about political violence ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
“Despite the reality of their potential rejection by the good people of Oyo State in the 2027 elections, there is absolutely no justification for Adekanmbi’s supporters to attack our candidates or vandalise APC candidates’ billboards,” the statement said.
It described the alleged act as unacceptable in a democratic society, insisting that all candidates should be allowed to campaign freely without intimidation or destruction of their campaign materials.
The organisation urged Adekanmbi and Governor Seyi Makinde to call their supporters to order and cautioned against actions capable of escalating political tension in the state.
It also called on the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and heads of other security agencies to identify and apprehend the alleged perpetrators.
“Democracy guarantees freedom of every candidate to campaign in an election. And APC candidates will not surrender this democratic right,” the statement added.
SSACO also appealed to APC members and supporters across the state to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, urging them not to respond to any provocation.
The organisation said the incident reinforced its earlier concerns about the activities of the APM in the state, while calling for measures to prevent further vandalism and possible political violence.
It also reiterated its confidence in Alli’s proposed governance blueprint, Oyo AHEAD, which it said would accelerate development and restore the state’s fortunes if he is elected governor.
