‘How CORFEPS deepens good governance advocacy’

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris

The Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries (CORFEPS) has said it contributes to national development and public sector reforms through policy advisory to the federal government on prudent debt administration, predictable budget cycles and stronger procurement practices.

CORFEPS said it draws on the wealth of experience of retired senior civil servants to support effective governance, strengthen public institutions and promote sustainable national development.

Established in Lagos in 2004 as an association, the council disclosed that its 2026 policy recommendations to President Bola Tinubu focused on these three critical areas.
The council comprises retired public servants who had attained the position of federal permanent secretary or Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

It lists its objectives as promoting meaningful engagement in national development, encouraging high standards of public conduct and performance, assessing national progress, and strengthening the non-partisan role of the civil service.

Moreover, CORFEPS seeks to promote interaction among retired federal permanent secretaries and to inspire serving public officers by sharing institutional knowledge and professional experience.

Meanwhile, the council stated that a major highlight of its activities in 2026 was the publication of its maiden CORFEPS Journal on Public Policy and Governance.

The journal, it said, is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience by drawing on the insights of individuals who have occupied senior positions in Nigeria’s public service.
