2027: Kwankwaso predicts Tinubu’s victory, backs Yusuf’s second term

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has predicted an overwhelming victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that growing support across party lines will strengthen the President’s re-election bid.

Kwankwaso, Director of Finance at the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, said the participation of politicians from different political backgrounds in the emerging coalition behind Tinubu demonstrated expanding acceptance of his leadership and reform agenda.

He expressed optimism that the involvement of prominent figures associated with parties such as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party would boost the President’s chances of securing another term.

According to him, the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council reflected a growing political consensus around Tinubu’s re-election.

“To me, the inauguration of the Campaign Council is like a congregation celebrating the re-election of President Tinubu back to office. What else remains when the same Nigerians we are supposed to campaign for have collectively come forward in unison for one person—Tinubu?” he asked.

The APC chieftain argued that the willingness of politicians from different political tendencies to work together suggested that the President’s political support base was expanding ahead of the 2027 election.

He also cited remarks by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and other political figures, arguing that their assessment of the administration’s economic policies reflected an understanding of the challenges facing Nigeria and the realities of the global economy.

“It has never happened in Nigeria’s political history that one man could attract nearly all opposition parties, not only opposition politicians, but people who have never agreed to sit together yet, because of Tinubu, they have accepted to come on board and pursue a common goal,” Kwankwaso said.

He maintained that the 2027 election should not be viewed solely as a contest over Tinubu’s political future but as a defining moment for Nigeria’s economic direction.

According to him, the President should be given another term to consolidate his policies and reforms, despite the economic difficulties Nigerians have experienced during the implementation of those measures.

Kwankwaso expressed confidence that the political realignment taking shape at the national level would also influence electoral calculations in Kano State.

He predicted that leading political figures in the state would unite behind Tinubu’s re-election bid while supporting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, for another term in office.

The APC chieftain’s forecast places Kano at the centre of the party’s 2027 calculations, given the state’s political significance and the importance of northern votes in determining the outcome of the presidential election.

However, the extent to which the anticipated cross-party alignment will translate into votes remains to be seen as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the next general election.
