Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has reacted to her colleague Eniola Badmus’ public apology, describing it as a “fake” amid their renewed public feud.
Badmus had apologised on Tuesday, October 20, following criticism over her reaction when Bakare’s name was mentioned during her appearance on content creator Isbae U’s Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Badmus acknowledged that her reaction during the interview could have appeared dismissive and expressed regret over how it came across.“On reflection, I realise my reaction when Laide Bakare’s name was mentioned during my recent interview could have come across as dismissive, and for that, I sincerely apologise,” she wrote.
Addressing Bakare directly, the actress added, “Laide, whatever our differences, I choose peace, and I genuinely wish you well.” Badmus also reflected on personal growth, suggesting that maturity involved learning from past experiences and moving beyond disagreements.“We’re all growing, learning and becoming better versions of ourselves. Sometimes maturity is simply knowing when to let go and move forward,” she stated.
She concluded her message with an appeal for reconciliation, writing, “Joo maa binu. No negativity. No grudges. Let love lead and peace reigns.”
However, Bakare appeared unconvinced by the apology. In her response on Instagram, she dismissed it as a “fake apology”, suggesting that Badmus’ statement had not resolved the tension between them.
The disagreement began after a clip from Badmus’ podcast appearance circulated online. During the interview, Isbae U named Bakare as one of his favourite actresses, prompting Badmus to hiss and change her facial expression.
The moment attracted attention on social media, with viewers discussing the apparent tension between the actresses.Bakare subsequently criticised Badmus in an Instagram post on Monday, October 19, accusing her of repeatedly damaging her reputation despite previous warnings.
She also described Badmus as ungrateful, claiming she had played a significant role in helping her colleague advance her career in the entertainment industry. Bakare maintained that she would not overlook the latest incident, accusing Badmus of attempting to undermine her publicly.
The latest exchange adds to a series of public disagreements between the actresses, whose strained relationship has attracted attention in Nollywood.
In 2024, the pair reportedly clashed after Badmus made a comment about Bakare’s outfit at her book launch. Bakare subsequently expressed disappointment over what she considered a lack of support from a colleague she had regarded as a friend. Guardian Nigeria previously reported on the controversy surrounding the actresses.
Their disagreement resurfaced in April 2025 at the Lagos premiere of Eniola Ajao’s film, Owambe Thieves. Videos from the event showed a tense interaction between the actresses, with Badmus reportedly insisting that they were no longer friends.
Badmus’ latest apology appeared to signal a willingness to move beyond their differences, but Bakare’s response suggests that reconciliation may not be immediate. (edited)
