Reminding that no merger has succeeded in the political history of the country, the group appealed to the APC leaders to carefully handle the National Assembly crisis to forestall factionalisation and massive decampment.
In a statement by its national president, Moshood Erubami, the Voters Assembly said the APC leadership must be cautious not to allow strange bedfellows that strayed into the party to stray back, like they came in.
“If the recalcitrant party members who take delight in sub-merging their party’s instruction on the platform of opportunism are allowed to stray out, it may rock the both of unity among the merging parties and advertently put power back into the hands of the PDP disguising under a new name at an unexpected time.
“It was unthinkable that the Senate will fail again last Tuesday to elect its remaining principal officers given the obvious indiscipline that permeated the first attempt to elect leaders in the Senate and all attempts made by the party to move on in the interest of peace.
“For the Senate to fail to heed the suggestion contained in the letter sent from the office of the chairman of the party, stipulating those that should be selected for the principal offices in the senate, things are now being made more difficult for the APC, the owner of Government in which the Senators are just a part of the tools needed to run it.
“ Nigerians who hold a long list of expectations are now confused about which master script the senate president is playing and whether the party instructions meant anything to him or he wants to continue to celebrate dissidents”, It stressed
The group warned the APC leadership not to allow itself to be used to achieve the nefarious objectives of a few who do not wish the country to come out of its over 16 years of misrule.
“The party must put its feet down and should not only step on the toes of saboteurs and betrayers but move to crush their legs and whip them to behave and accept party supremacy” , he said
Erubami maintained that the current imbroglio in the national assembly pose a serious threat to party supremacy.
He warned that if care is not taken, it may play the APC into the waiting hands of the rejected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) again possibly under a new name, pointing out that the development in the two chambers of the National Assembly underscore the fact that there are some APC members that are playing along with the devil who are prepared to sell the country to the highest bidder in order to achieve their selfish ends.
As a way out of the logjam, the group advocated that the leadership of each party that contributed to the merger should be summoned to an urgent reconciliation meeting to avoid taking individual decisions henceforth on important issues in other to hold the team together.
