Consultant solicits more university admission opportunities for youths
THE Managing Director, Harvestfield Educational Services, Mrs. Elsie Otegbade, has advocated for more educational opportunities to be made available for qualified Nigerian youths that seek admissions in tertiary institutions worldwide, including Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Abuja, she expressed concern over the number of qualified youths who roam the streets across the nation because they are unable to secure admission into our local universities.
Her words: “The main reason for this is ignorance; you find out that most Federal universities are oversubscribed. On the other hand there are many good private universities with a variety of courses that these youths can apply to.”
“Additionally there are immense educational opportunities in other countries waiting to be tapped.’’
Otegbade further urged government at different levels to make admission into our tertiary institutions less cumbersome as it is abroad.
“Why do students meet university requirements abroad more easily than they do locally, for instance?”
“We need to seriously look into this as there is a growing number of youths stranded after their secondary school education.”
Otegbade said her organization would host its 8th Harvestfield International Education Expo, a convergence of top tertiary institutions from around the world.
According to her, diplomatic missions of different countries would be at the expo to advise parents and students on the available university admission opportunities that could be accessed within Nigeria, Canada, Ireland, China, UK, Dubai and Ghana, among others.
She said the exposition would hold in Lagos on January 29 -30 in Abuja, on February 3, Port Harcourt on February 4 and Uyo on February 6 with theme: “Meeting the Educational Needs of Nigeria’s Emerging Economy.’’
