THE Chairman of Bakare Jafojo Street, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, Otunba Olatunbosun Onabanjo, has called on the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to put smiles on the faces of the victims of the Iyana-Ipaja tanker explosion, just as the government had done for the victims lost tricycles and houses to the inferno.
Speaking after a meeting with the affected victims yesterday, Onabanjo who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also thanked the state government for putting smiles on the faces of other victims during the visit of the Deputy Governor, Dr Oluranti Adebule.
“We were told that day that all the victims would be settled. But at the end of the day, the car owners were left out. We don’t know the reason why we have not been compensated. They have said that we should go and meet our insurance agents. The challenge is that most of us use third party insurance,“ the APC chieftain said.
Olatubosun, who claimed to have lost a Chevrolet bus to the inferno added: “The suffering of the vehicle owners is even more. We have some vehicles worth over N2 million razed down. I bought my car for N1,450 million.
“In Bakare Jafojo alone, 17 vehicles were involved, while four others got burnt from other streets. A copy of the list of the victims had been sent to our governor in Alausa.”
Another victim, Mrs. Felicia Oludunjoye, whose husband’ s vehicle, a Renault bus, was said to have been destroyed by the inferno, disclosed that things have not been easy for the family since the fire incident.
“My husband, Kazeem worked in Victoria Island. He has been using the vehicle as commercial bus to augment his meagre income. He bought the fairly used vehicle for N480, 000,” the mother of four said.
