FORMER President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Senior Special Assistant in the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Jude Imagwe, yesterday tasked school authorities and government to evolve proactive measures to halt the needless loss of lives at campuses of tertiary institutions across the federation.
Imagwe, who spoke in Benin City in the wake of the recent death of a female student of the University of Benin who got knocked down in front of the institution by a military Hilux van while crossing the highway in company of her friend who is critically ill at the moment and similar cases across the campuses, suggested public enlightenment among students and relevant stakeholders besides building of pedestrian bridges, making of speed breaks and other means that could reduce speed of drivers across campus gates and other populated areas as a way forward.
The former presidential aide, while describing the incident “sudden termination of the carrier of another generation,” commiserated with the family and the student’s community.
