
The Kebbi State Government in collaboration with Sustaining Health Outcomes in the Private Sector Plus (SHOP PLUs) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have trained medical personnel in 17 private hospitals on the state’s Push Diarrhea Away (PDA) programme.
Head of SHOP PLUS Team, Ayodele Iroko, said at the launch of the progamme in Birnin Kebbi that about seven local councils and villages have been visited on the awareness campaign.
She noted that 2,520 jungles on Radio and TV have been aired on the creative awareness while over 1000 children who were affected had been treated.
Iroko stated that the mission of the organisation was to save the lives of the children and ensure that diarrhea was eradicated from the state through extensive campaign.
She, however, advised parents, especially mothers to ensure that their children were kept away from dirty environment and ensure their personal hygiene.
Responding, wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Zainab Atiku Bagudu, thanked the organisation for choosing the state as center for its healthcare activities and assured of the state readiness and willingness to cooperate with the government to ensure a hitch free exercise.
The state Commissioner for Health, Umar Kambaza, said that the SHOP PLUs Project, which was founded by USAID, has supported the state government in the past three years through the empowerment of health providers.
This, he stressed has improved the quality of healthcare and increased access to maternal child health service delivery in the private sector, as well as complemented the provision public health services in the state.
