KANO Pillars Sunday had another one over their archrivals, Enyimba of Aba, beating the ‘Peoples Elephant’ 1-0 in their final game of the Glo Premier League Super Six Championship.

In November, Pillars piped Enyimba to the 2013/2014 league title by one point to retain the crown for the third time in a row. And even though Sunday’s game was a warm up match for the two sides, some fans thought Enyimba would use the opportunity to show that they are still the best side in the land. But it was Pillars, through Christian Obiozor’s late first half goal, who showed that their recent stranglehold on the GLO League crown is no fluke.

The win put Pillars at the same seven points with Enyimba.

The Kano team thought they were in the lead in a frenetic first half, with Tony Edjomarigwe sliding in his shot, but it was ruled out as offside.

Pillars continued to press and, as Enyimba struggled to cope with Obiozor’s presence up front, the former Enugu Rangers forward headed venomous effort to the waiting net.

Enyimba came out strongly after the interval and went close on numerous times, but Theophilus Afelokhai rose to the challenge.

The Flying Eagles, which met their national Under-23 team counterparts late last night, were crowned the winners of the Super Six after their stylish 4-1 defeat of Dolphins on Friday.

Manu Garba’s wards had 12 points from four games, while the Under-23 team had eight going into yesterday’s final match.

In yesterday’s other game, Abu Azeez scored a late goal to give Warri Wolves a 1-0 victory over Dolphins.

That defeat ensured that Dolphins finished with no point, while Wolves ended with six points from five games. Warri Wolves had on Friday beaten Pillars 2-0.
