Telecom Games: Airtel, MTN Battle To Join IHS In Finals
As the 2015 Nigeria Telecom Games (NTG) approaches the final curve, the organisers have listed five outstanding players who will be inducted to the Corporate Nigeria Games Hall of Fame.
These players have thus earned the status of Telecom Games Pioneer Class of 2015 and will be formally inducted on September 6 during the final matches at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.
The players are Rotimi Odusola, who played for MTN before joining Guinness, Joseph Akpata also of MTN and Andrew Enebeli of Etisalat. Others are Etisalat’s Chima Nnorom and Oluwatosin Agbetusin of LM Ericsson.
Meanwhile, the last of the qualifying games for the finals will hold today with Airtel and MTN clashing for the remaining finals slot.
IHS, already through to the finals, will play LM Ericsson that are already looking forward for the third place match as the other team in the championship, Etisalat, are already eliminated after completing their games.
Airtel must win in the match against MTN to make their first ever finals, while MTN, twice champions, need to avoid defeat to attempt to make history as the first side to win a third football event title. Airtel in their last game edged LM Ericsson 1-0 to rekindle their ambitions for a final’s outing and they will need to throw in all they have to stop MTN that initially led on the table before their defeat to new comers, IHS.
IHS, are in a formality tie with Ericsson and would seek to extend their perfect record so far in the competition. Going by current form, they remain favorites to win this match and end with maximum points from their group fixtures.
