ANGRY reactions continue to trail the renaming of Nsukka Township Stadium after Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, by the council chairman, Charles Ugwu.

Ugwu had announced to the surprise of the crowd during People’s Democratic Party’s campaign at the weekend that the stadium would henceforth be called “Sullivan Chime Stadium” as an appreciation to the governor for ensuring that the governorship position of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was zoned to Nsukka zone.

Some residents of the area, who reacted to the development, described the Council Chairman as confused, jackpot reminding him that he had not done any tangible project since he assumed office and should use the remaining seven months of his two year term to serve his people.

A councilor of the council, who preferred anonymity, said the law makers were astonished at the announcement as the chairman never informed them before going public with the decision.

“All I have to say is that the chairman doesn’t have the blessing of the councilors on the renaming of the stadium as we were not consulted. Volleyball Betting The chairman is on his own”, he said.

According to Desmond Omeje, a party chieftain in Nsukka: “ I have come to realize that one should always accept the decisions of his party leadership, but as a child of God, not when such decisions are taken without proper consultation from appropriate stakeholders.

“The surprise decision by the chairman to rename Nsukka Township Stadium after the governor is totally unacceptable. football prediction and analysis If it must be renamed, we the people of Nsukka will have a say. Our councilors will have to debate on it.”

“A stadium rebuilt and remodeled by his predecessor, Tony Ugwu, richest football club which was commissioned by the governor himself, why was it not renamed then?” he asked.

“The stadium had remained a rallying point for the Nsukka geopolitical zone and it will always bear Nsukka Township Stadium to reflect the unity existing among the six LGAs of Nsukka zone,” he said.

He advised the chairman to embark on projects that will be beneficial to the people of the council rather than renaming projects built by his predecessors, urging him to withdraw the pronouncement to avoid creating disaffection among Nsukka people.

Samuel Ugwuoke in his reaction said there was nothing wrong in appreciating the governor for ensuring that his successor comes from the zone, the richest coach in the world adding, however, that it was unfortunate that the chairman had done nothing to improve on the council since he came to office.

“Gov. Chime has done well to Nsukka people, but it is a shame to rename an aged edifice after him.

“The Chairman has been sleeping since he assumed office. No tangible project had been done on our roads and other basic amenities are getting worse on daily basis,” he said.

He reminded the chairman that there was always a payback time and that his position was like a classroom where if one failed, he failed but if one passed, he has opportunity for a second tenure.

“Ugwu has not achieved any developmental project since he assumed office, and he is only busy renaming project done by his predecessors.

“Nsukka people are waiting for him as another election is around the corner, Ugwu knows he will not smell second term because of his poor performance,” he said.
