Council officials, led by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in Ughelli South Legislative Arm, Hon. Sunday Apah, yesterday toured some of the affected areas to assess the level of damage.
Appah, however, appealed to the state and federal governments to come to the aid of his people.
He said: “I am surprised at the level at which the flood destroyed the properties of my constituents. As a result, many have been rendered homeless, but as a member of the Ughelli South Legislative Arm, I will do my best to see how the situation could be
managed pending when help will come from the state and federal governments.
“As a local government, we can only do our best because of the meagre resources from the Federal Government. I want to appeal to my people to be patient for a while. They will definitely be taken care of by the government,” Appah assured.
Also, the Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the council, Sadiq Hitler, lamented how the flood destroyed his belongings and rendered him homeless.
He appealed to concerned authorities to come to their rescue, warning that if urgent step was not taken, the community could be swept away completely by flood.
