The group who frowned at recent development where the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Taraba State in the last general election, Aisha Jumai Alhassan, took pleasure in going round the state with siren, the need for the security operatives especially the police to ensure the implementation of the IG’ directives they said had become necessary
In a news statement yesterday made available to news men in Jalingo, by the group co-ordinator, Caleb Galumje and the Secretary General, Nana Dan-Atiku, the group said, “should the security operatives continue to ignore such acts by allowing person or persons who is not an elected governor or not allow by law to make use of siren, we will be compel to stop such persons.”
Observing, “indiscriminate use of siren within the territorial boundary of a state is prohibited under the Road Traffic Law” they seek to know the authority that gave the Alhassan (now a minister nominee) the right to go about “bossing and puffing with siren.”
Part of the release reads; “Is she supposed to blow siren in Jalingo to compete with the governor who was also in town? And what was the reaction of the State Commissioner of Police? What should the police do when an individual uses siren when he or she is not eligible to use?”
“The Buhari administration, in its efforts to curb purposeful violation of law and order with impunity” as made known by them “renewed the law and gave the notice because of the horrendous abuse of siren by politicians which has caused unnecessary harassment to innocent road users.”
Noting, “nobody is above the law” they are of the view that “if Alhassan was the governor, she would not condone any act of such public disorder under her watch, particularly coming from an opponent.”
The group who want the leadership of the police in the state to be up and doing stated: “Last Saturday, residents of Jalingo were thrown into confusion because of her show of comedy and abuse of edict and public policy.
