AS the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) passed out 2,182 Batch ‘C’ Corps Members who served in Benue state, Governor Samuel Ortom has charged them to turn any challenge that may come their way into opportunity.
Ortom also urged the corps members who had participated in the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development (SAED) programme to take advantage of soft loans provided by government and non-governmental organisations to establish their businesses.
Represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Targema Takema, the Governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing corps members for selflessly committing their intellectual capabilities and creative ingenuity towards improving the living standard of the state. “Your numerous contributions in the areas of agriculture, education, healthcare, rural infrastructure as well as the war against deadly human immunodeficiency virus/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) scourge, drug abuse and other youth-related social vices can not easily be quantified in monetary terms,” Ortom said.
In her address, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Esther Atamewan, charged the outgoing corps members to be good ambassadors as they proceed on the journey of life.
Atamewan commended the five members who distinguished themselves within the 11 months of their service in the state, by going the extra-mile to initiate and execute life-touching community development projects in their host communities, saying history will ever remember them.
