NDIC transfers two firms to Imo govt

As a proactive measure against armed robbery in Imo State, Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Frederick Lakanu, has commenced sensitisation campaigns in banks, calling on managers to install modern facilities in their branches to support security operations.

Lawani, at the weekend, assured banks that the police command would do its best in providing a safe environment for businesses, advising them to contribute to the effort by reporting suspicious activities in any part of the state.

According to him, the police would mobilise officers to secure bank facilities, but financial institutions, too, must provide necessary security installations for effective security of life and property.

Besides, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has transferred ownership of two companies, Raisin and Paints Industry, Aboh Mbaise and Paper Packaging Industry, Owerre, Ebiri, Orlu to the Imo State Government.

The state governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, received the keys of the companies, which were built by former governor of the state, late Chief Sam Mbakwe, but was sold off due to mismanagement.

Managing Director of NDIC, Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, represented by his deputy, Mr. Obaji Obaji, said the companies performed poorly under the old management, which bought them during the military era.

Okorocha, on his part, said the transfer of ownership marked the fulfillment of his campaign promise of reviving industries, adding that he would intensify efforts to revitalise dormant state-owned industrial assets.
