Vice chancellor of Augustine University, Ilara, (AUI) Epe, Lagos, Prof. Stephen Olaoluwa Afolami, has assured that the new institution would offer quality teaching and learning using 21st century facilities.
Addressing journalists while announcing the official inauguration of the school, Afolami said academic activities for the 2015/2016 academic session would commence on Friday, October 30, 2015.
He said the fully residential institution, which maximised the benefits of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in its facilities and structures was carefully designed to deliver world-class education to young Nigerians.
The vice chancellor who said the school had to source for faculty members competitively promised that students’ and staff members’ safety would never be compromised for any reason.
He said, “As we finalise plans for official take off, I want to assure that the facilities on ground are appropriate for 21st century learning. What we plan to offer to young Nigerians is quality education delivered with quality facilities by quality faculties. With our multimedia classrooms and 24-hour electric supply, students would be excellently groomed.”
In his remarks, Catholic Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, said the mission of the institution is to “develop well-rounded persons who will be role models and leaders in the society.”
He said the institution, which was granted provisional operational license by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in May 2015, would “through the pursuit of a broad spectrum of academic disciplines, epitomise the noble tradition of Catholic higher education in seeking to achieve intellectual, cultural, moral and spiritual excellence.
“It will seek to produce scholars who are imbued with the love of universal truth, towards the service of God and humanity. It will provide facilities for training, learning and research to promote advancement of knowledge.”
He added that so far N7b has been expended in the first phase of the project, comprising colleges of education and humanities, social and management sciences, administrative block, male and female hostels, multipurpose hall, science laboratories and health centre. The second and third phases, he added would gulp N5b and N4b respectively.
