NIESV inducts rights activist Omoregie
EMINENT social, political, environmental and human rights activist, Henry Enotiemwonmwan Omoregie has been inducted as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV). He was one of those inducted at a ceremony in Abuja.
Omoregie, FNIVS, RSV, MNIM, is the Managing Partner, Henry Omoregie and Company, a firm of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Real Estate and Development Consultants, in Benin City, Edo State.
He was born in Benin City on January 3, 1961 to Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Omoregie, a trained teacher and devout Christian of the Aigbe Uwenbor family of Okhuoromi, Iyeke-Ogba, in Oredo Local Government Council, Edo State.
He attended Arinze and Owina Primary schools both in Benin City and Anglican Primary School, Udo, where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate in 1973.
He had his secondary education at Edo National College, Iguobazuwa, where he had the best result in the West African School Certificate Examination in 1978 and was immediately employed as an Auxiliary Teacher in the school. He then proceeded to Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, in 1979, for a four-year straight course leading to the award of the Higher National Diploma in Estate Management. He did his National Youth Service Corps in Enugu and had his primary assignment with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Estate Department, in 1983/1984.
Omoregie, sat for and passed the Direct Final Examinations of the Institution, in 1999, where he won the Ben Akporiaye prize as best candidate in property Rating and Taxation. He was elected as an Associate Member of the Institution in 2003 and registered with the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board (ESVARBON) in 2004.
He has worked in both public and private institutions including Oska Planning Associates, C. Odudu & Associates, National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB), Humphrey Oronsaye & Company and Henry Omoregie & Company, where he has been the Managing Partner, since 2004. He also served as a member as the Land Use and Allocation Committee, Edo State (2009 – 2012).
He has served the institution in various positions at the national and branch levels. At NIESV, Edo State, he was Honorary Publicity Secretary, 2004 – 2009 and was the Chairman, Publicity Sub-Committee of the NIEVS 2013 conference and served the branch as an active member of other committees. He is currently the Vice Chairman of Edo State Branch of the institution.
At the national level, he was a member of a Corporate Affairs Committee (CAC) for six (6) consecutive years (2008 – 2013) and received awards in that regard.
He is currently serving as a member of the Professional Practice Committee (PPC) of the National Council, NIESV, as well as the Professional Practice Committee, ESVARBON (2013 – till date).
Omoregie also belongs to many professional bodies such as Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI).
His hobbies include meeting people and making friends, travelling and reading religious books. He is a member of Benin Royal Lions Club. He is also an active member of Edo National College Old Students Association, Benin City and Uhuru Foundation (worldwide).
He is married to a geologist, Mrs. Mercy O. Omoregie and have children.
